One of my favorite shows growing up, it was all about solving crimes with science. PBS was really wholesome programming and brain food. And, it was my in to NYC. I was never gonna be one of those Fame kids at LaGuardia but I really enjoyed the Bloodhound gang and their innovation. Why do you they make unnecessary remakes of The Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky and Hutch but not the Bloodhound Gang?

The morning after an exam-writing workshop in Nashville I visited the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Outlaw Country exhibit (mostly about Willie and Waylon playing in Austin and recording in Nashville) was real cool. But what I liked most was the car collection. They had Elvis's Cadillac, Nudie's El Dorado and Burt Reynold's Trans Am.

Went and saw Michael Stipe's art show. He is good at making lists and abstracting time. There are many lists in his lyrics: “ginger, lemon, indigo, coriander stem and rose of hay... Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce, Lester Bangs, Leonard Bernstein” and references to time spans: “time as an abstract - what do you do between the horns of the day... your finest hour ... every whisper of every waking hour”. And that’s how his show was set up - cultural artifacts spanning time. 

A large, colorful mod glass cabinet of pop art/punk rock paraphernalia placed like a shuttle against a black and white timeline of the Twentieth Century. The Twentieth Century summarized in four movements: the Dewey Decimal System, Marlon Brando, the Concorde jet and the United Nations. Michael Stipe was there in jogging shoes, signing records, explaining things. It wasn’t a huge crowd, there was a dedicated section of art scene hopefuls. 🐜 🐜 🐜

Michael Stipe :: Infinity Mirror

Added a scene reader that reads in the parameters for the scene objects from an external file. This is a pretty basic rendering of a 3x3x3 grid with some color differentiation. What I didn't like about primitive ray tracers is that they don't calculate atmospheric perspective correctly. Atmospheric perspective, in fine arts, is the diminishing in color intensity of objects that are further away. It's caused by light hit particles in the air which diminish the amount of light waves hitting the eye. Hence, an apple a foot away is a much more intense red than an apple one hundred feet away. Something to work on. My conic shapes still aren't there yet.
